Day 451

My goodness how time has escaped me. Notice the daylight hours (12:44)! Yes! Unfortunately we lose an hour tonight so it will not be as bright in the mornings for a while, but daylight is returning and that is good.

It has been 45 days since my last entry. In that time I have returned to New York for a four-day weekend but that is nearly all the news that’s fit to print. Of course there have been a slew of Minnesota moments both good and bad in there too, but like the songs of the new production of AIDA I just can’t seem to remember them.

Aida? Yes, Ordway Center was offered comps to a preview performance on Tuesday, March 27th. Considering it is the type of theatre Annette and I would never pay to see, this worked out great. The show was what one might expect: Big tech, big music, big voices. But sadly only one day later I could not recall the melody of a single song. That can’t be good.

Tomorrow Annette and I travel to New Richmond, WI to help my office-mate Scott re-build a fence. The trip started as simply somelthing to do on Sunday other than sit around the apartment. Also Scott & Laura have added new kittens to their menagerie, so I figured the time was right for a visit.

“Can you help build a fence?”

“Sure.”

That was about Monday. By Thursday Scott was warning me to wear boots (“that will get covered in poop”) and describing the kind of fence we’d be working on. “Also keep an eye on the weather. It’s supposed to really suck on Sunday.”

I went to Home Depot this morning and bough super duper extra heavy duty work gloves.

We plan to get to Scott & Laura’s place about 10. Eat some breakfast, work for four hours or so, then head back West. On the way back we plan to visit Jackson Meadow. No, I don’t forsee us buying into the community, but from what I’ve read this is one of the best housing concepts to come to Minnesota. When I think of the awful sprawl going on in the Western suburbs, Jackson Meadow seems like a dream. Maybe I could get a job as the community’s “online specialist.” I could be the sysadmin for the community. Hell, they’re probably marketing toward rich 30-somethings. If they could throw in broadband connectivity to every house with an onsite sysadmin… there’s a nice value-add.
