Day 1512 – Awful

Hours of Daylight – 14:04
Before i say anything else let me begin with something positive: Spring in Minnesota remains one of the best kept secrets of North America. We are now officially in spring. No, not as measured by the calendar, as measured by nature. Cool, clear, low humidity, gentle rains (with the occasional devastating thunderstorm spewing baseball sized hail and spawning tornados), and beautiful sunsets that seem to go on for hours. This is the best of all possible times to visit the northern lattitudes that are below 3000 feet.

Now, i take you back to our regularly scheduled rant.

Reno was a great trip, but i can’t imagine us living there. Also the starting salary under discussion was very low; hardly more than i’m making at Ordway Center. And, make no mistake, Reno may have been a sleepy little town back in the 70’s, but those days are gone. It is a growing desert metropolis with construction of new little houses moving along at a spooky pace. The cost of living is probably the same as here in the Twin Cities, plus you have the added bonus of California prices for gasoline.

So, what’s awful, you ask? It has been four weeks since her interview at SUNY Albany. Four or five emails have been exchanged since. And to this moment we still don’t know what is the decision on the employment situation. The waiting. That’s what’s awful. As the days crawl past we could, at any moment, get a phone call, or an email, saying “come work for us.” At that point our lifestyle of the past four and a half years abruptly comes to a close, and we start the next phase.

Yes, this is something i’ve been looking forward to for years now, but to be this close and still not know, is driving me crazy. This is especially difficult for Annette since she has the double stress of having to finish her dissertation while waiting for the magic email to waft down from Albany.
