Day 1551 – Third?

Hours of Daylight: 15:29

In a previous entry i said this was my third International Children’s Festival. That was a mistake. This would be Number FOUR. Four times i’ve wrangled school busses for this event.

Today is Friday, the last day of the “School Days.” Today will be the last bus wrangling day for me. Tomorrow begins the two public days, which are actually more fun for me since i get to wander around and take photographs that may or may not find their way online.

The big motorcycle is currently at a local Victory dealer getting looked at. It’s overdue for an oil & filter change, the taillight’s not working when it should be.. and the license plate light is not working. Hell, i went to enough trouble to GET that damn plate, i WANT a light shining on it. Might be ready this afternoon. Might not.

Not sure if it’s a good thing or not, having Annette out of town and possibly having the two-wheeled beast sitting out front. Might be tempted to ride a bit more than would be wise. Never know.

What i’d like to find is a track. A nice motorcyle road-race track where i could rent an hour or so. You know, the ones with the flat turns that you have lean WAY over to speed through. It’s difficult and fairly dangerous to practice those types of turns out on the public roads. But handling such turns is the key to safer riding. It’s one thing to go straight and fast, but it’s another to be nimble and fully in control of the bike at all times.

Failing a track the next best thing might be a really big, elaborate, cloverleaf interchange between two major highways. You can see how practicing in such a place might be dangerous, right?

Uh oh. I just looked out the window… the blanket of clouds that was half over the city as i drove in this morning is now obscuring the sun. It would seem the blanket was moving in, not moving out. Rain will make the load-in and load-out of the hundreds of kids a nightmare. It rained for a spell during the first Festival. The adults were furious that we didn’t have some kind of tent structure set up. Considering we had busses lined up nearly a quarter of a mile along 5th street it would have been quite a tent.
