Day 916 – Spectacular

This has been a magnificent day. Cool, clear, chilly in the shade, warm in the sun. A perfect fall day. There used to be days like this in Minnesota as well, but not so much in New York due to the constant humidity.

I’ve been steadily working on several “new” web projects that are sort of coming in for a landing. The largest by far is Sleepy Hollow Gifts Online. It’s a Zen-Cart instance that has been quite the learning opportunity. On balance i’m quite happy with ZenCart. For free software it is full-featured and relatively easy to use. Of course there are many, many “secret handshake” moments, but an active user base and online forum helps at those times.

I’ve just returned from touring the “western short loop” as i’ve come to call it. That’s out State Street to route 16, 16 North to Emmett, through Emmett, follow signs for Black Canyon dam, follow that road all the way to 55 at Horseshoe Bend, then 55 back toward State, but turn off at Hill Road, Hill all the way back into Boise where it turns in the 13th street, 13th through Hyde Park, back to State, left on 16th, cross the Boise river, left on Roosevelt, right on Bethel, left into my garage. It is a great ride for Sunday evenings.

It’s not too far (about 75 – 80 miles), traverses some very dramatic high desert scenery, and, best of all, i get to pass everybody on the big hill climb out of Horseshoe Bend. When Annette and i make that trip in the VW the best we can make is 45 MPH in 3rd gear. The motorcycle has a slightly greater power to weight ratio… passing at 85 is no problem. But i guess the point i’m trying to make here is this place is very pretty. True the WSL has no trees, but it’s still a compelling landscape with the Fall sun hovering low in the west. There is so much i’m going to miss when i finally leave here. Falls Brand bacon is another.
