Day 1013 – More Cat Observations

It’s a regular thing. The squirrel comes to eat the corn and at some point Isa goes outside and for the next 30 minutes or so makes like a snake and inches her way across the field of bark chips. Ironically she could probably walk at regular speed to exactly three feet from the squirrel rather than low-crawl for half an hour. The squirrel pays her no mind until she’s inside four feet, and even then pays more attention to the corn. Once Isa reaches about the three foot mark the squirrel keeps one eye on the cat.

Isa and Squirrel

Isa is at a definite disadvantage. First, she’s on loose bark that doesn’t provide solid purchase for her paws when she decides to make her move. Second, the squirrel needs only to get a few inches up the tree (just out of the frame to the left) and Isa will blow right by. Isa has good speed, but she has more mass and changing direction is tricky business.
