Day 1039 – About Last Night

Sorry, no photos were taken. However, for just about the first time in my life (ok, a bit of hyperbole to start the day), i felt a sense of pride being part of a group. Record turnout… way, way high record turnout at the Idaho Democratic Caucus. That’s the key measure. Politicians aren’t going to wave a wand and make everything better, but if enough people escape their (my) overwhelming sense of apathy and hopelessness then change, driven at least in part from a bottom-up rather than a top-down approach, might occur. And it was fun.

No, we didn’t get in. We waited in an insane line that snaked all around the poorly named “grove” in the middle of downtown Boise. We did manage to get to about fifty feet from the front doors of the Qwest Arena, but that was it. The place was full to bursting inside, the doors had to be closed. But, it doesn’t really matter. It would have been nice to get inside and warm up (none of us were properly dressed to stand around outside for hours), but the ballots we were handed as we waited were accepted and, i can only hope, counted.
