Day 1056 – Airplane Cold

Steel Trees and Empire State And once again i feel like crap. This is the second cold to hit me in fairly quick succession and what is really creepy, while it started in the bronx, i literally felt the virus attacking me when i was on the airplane back from LGA to BOI.

You know how people always fret about air travel in that you’re basically confined to a closed environment from take-off to get-off. Well, i lived it on Wednesday. Ok, granted i was already feeling the edges of a cold, but once on the—entirely full—flight from New York to Minneapolis and seated next to a woman who coughed and coughed i could actually feel my sinuses responding to an incoming threat. And there was nowhere to go. So, yeah, three days after that exposure i’m harboring a very well-developed respiratory infection.

This last trip to NYC was particularly good. It was almost entirely about Art. Yes Art with a capital “A.” Art that makes you stop and, if not think at least puzzle over, what you’re eyes are telling your brain they are seeing. I’m fading out pretty fast here, so i’ll just issue a big internet “Thank You” to the DIA foundation for taking over that old Nabisco printing plant in Beacon NY and installing some fabulous art. And two additional “Thank You”s to Lee Friedlander for continuing to work and the good folks at the Metropolitan Museum for hanging some of his latest.

And with that i’m off to lie down.
