Day 1380 – State of the State

It pretty well blows. The governor of my adopted state had his say earlier today and although i watched it live i have only a partial idea what was said.

No, that’s a bit of hyperbole; it could be worse. Idaho is so small and the state budget is so tiny small increases in fees here and holdback there can make a huge difference.

What does blow, to the point it can ruin my mood for hours, is Windows. I elected to fire up my, now quite old, Dell XPS Gen II laptop. It’s running Windows XP and just starting it up after letting it sit idle for about a month, has taken over two hours of my life. Updates, updates to updates, updates that cannot be installed because other updates have not yet been installed, restart, restart again, download this update and restart. Were i not consuming my “free time” to do this absurd dance, i.e. i was at my job and was unable to work whilst all this computer crap was going on, it would have cost my company (and therefore the Idaho tay payer) actual money.

I’ll say it again: windows is a horrible operating system that robs you of your life while costing your employer money. It is the operating system from hell.
