Day 1532 – Change in the Weather

It’s almost unnatural how much my mood is affected by the weather. The past couple of weeks have been almost entirely un-desert like. It’s been great. I’m sure by this time next week we’ll have entered the parade of blue-sky-cloudless days that will entreat the sun to bake the ground to a dusty crust and brown all but the hardiest sages with the deepest roots.

But for now i’m loving life here in the banana belt of Idaho. Haven’t turned the AC on for more than a few minutes to test it. Turned the sprinklers off last week, haven’t turned them back on yet. Given the requirements of the new one-income (hah!) budget, every dollar we can save is a dollar earned.

News: the cool damp weather has tickled my “get the hell out of dodge” bone. I’ve asked a friend in Philly to start scouring the job scene for me. I’ve applied for a job in Arcata, CA and already completed a brief phone interview.

Truthfully the weather hasn’t played a part at all. It’s time to go, is all, and the perennial question of “but where to?”  has sprung up like the mystery plants of our side yard. I have no idea if a move to Arcata would be feasible. I have no idea if a move to Philly would be, either. But the feeling the moorings have been cut has bubbled up. All that’s needed is a little shove in one direction or another to start the ship moving.
