So this past Sunday i hauled my ass (and my camera bag) to the top of Grizzly Peak. It’s a very nice hike that traverses a rich mix of forest types. My only comment would be to edit the information on the little kiosk at the trailhead. Where it begins “This short hike….” i would add “relentlessly ascending” to the description. But then i’m horribly out of shape so i suspect for most people the ascension would not be quite as taxing.
As is so often the case i did the loop trail up near the summit backwards and hence would argue that backwards is the superior direction. By going backwards, counter-clockwise, you’re presented with a more dramatic, sudden, view of the burned part of the forest. Really… you pop out of lush greenery on one side of a ridge and into a graveyard of trees. Maybe at the trailhead was where i read about the fire, the Antelope fire.
Rather than babble on, i’ll just cut to the pictures.
