Annette and i worked nearly 9 hours yesterday painting and caulking our sagging home. The good news is the “master bath” is finally painted and looking almost friendly. We made great strides in our plan to repaint the trim highlight we spent 9 hours painting after moving in. See, the trim in a doublewide is not like the trim in a regular house. It’s there to give the guys who tack these things together space to be sloppy… and then the trim itself is tacked up willy-nilly with gaps, voids and bad joints. That’s where the caulk comes in!

Rather than worry about doing it right, i’ve discovered the magic of latex caulk. Caulk fills the voids perfectly, takes seconds to apply, is paintable, and makes the trim look like trim in a real house. Seriously, it’s amazing how sealing some gaps where the trim meets the ceiling can improve the feel of a room.

In other news, our neighbor attended a chicken swap in Eugene on Saturday. She returned with two birds for me. I swear i didn’t ask her to do this, but i’m having memory issues. She returned with a two-year old Speckled Sussex and a bedraggled Americauna of a similar vintage. The Americauna is simply pathetic. It was brutalized by a rooster and looks like it has been through a plucking machine.

Naturally Reggie the she-rooster immediately set about demonstrating the pecking order. However the Sussex is an older bird and has been around the block. She demonstrated submission, but not before she took two pieces out of Reggie’s comb. It was a short lived, but pretty fierce fight where the Sussex didn’t get a visible scratch. From what i can tell the Sussex has taken the #2 spot. The bedraggled Americauna just keeps to herself… she’s not even part of the pecking order yet. Ah, the life of chickens. Photos to follow.
