Day 1,414 – Guarded

We picked Mora up from the vet Friday evening. X-rays all the way to her tail and visual examination of her throat revealed nothing. She got a great big sub-q injection of saline for hydration, and some “critical care” cat food. She’s still not right. Better, but not right.

What the hell happened to her? We’re both combing over our place looking for anything she might have eaten or been exposed to. The Vet is less convinced she suffered some kind of trauma after viewing the x-rays and is now thinking poison or some kind of infection. We keep no poisons or baited traps and Mora has never eaten anything foreign. She does drink water from questionable sources, but she cannot access the chicken water, i dump the duck pond after each use and there is no standing water anywhere on this parched land. The ongoing concern is whatever happened to Mora could pose a hazard to Isa or Kaylee or any other critters we have running around.

Annette suggested the work we’re having done on our place might have stirred something up, i.e. the previous owners could have put some form of poison under the doublewide and Lenny-the-contrator may have uncovered it whilst crawling around re-leveling this preposterous dwelling. Once he’s back on Monday i’m borrowing his knee protection and doing a crawl.

Meanwhile we’re keeping Mora separated from Isa and carefully measuring her input and output.  She is eating small quantities of the prescription cat food, but she shows no interest in water. We’ve mixed some of the cat food, which is canned, with water to make a soup and she has taken some of that. She has peed and pooped. Ah the joys of pets.
