Day 1,506 – Melting

liquid water

Today is headed above freezing as was yesterday. The melt is continuing apace.

I’m sure there are more cold snaps coming, but I for one am incredibly happy none of my pipes froze during this bout of single-digit nights.

Actually one pipe did freeze up, and remains frozen. It’s the water line to the ice maker/water dispenser in the old fridge that came with this place. For reasons escaping my understanding the previous owners opted to run the water line to the refrigerator from an outside hose fitting. Yes, they ran about 15 feet of teeny copper tubing outside the house, then buried it for a foot or so right before it loops up through the floor and connects to the refrigerator.

I hear the ice maker trying to make ice, but there’s no water available. It keeps trying and trying. Switching to an inside water line, like from the sink six feet from the fridge, is on my todo list.
