Day 1,695 – At Home with a Duckling

Junior at 3+ Weeks

I’d need a full film crew to accurately document the roller coaster this little duck has had me on these past three or so weeks.

Ducks are incredible critters. First they manage to break out of a very tough egg without the benefit of a beak. Then, within hours of accomplishing that feat, are scampering around at astonishing speeds, following after the first creature they saw upon exiting said egg.

Ducklings are fearless and relentless. They know what they want and are entirely unafraid to make demands. This little girl has defended herself against both of my cats and has mixed with my laying flock of chickens and ducks without a second’s hesitation. Even Kaylee-Dog is unsure what to make of this little peeping fluff ball. Earlier I was holding the duck in my hands and lowered her down to be on eye-level with the dog. Kaylee approached and sniffed and the little duck proceeded to chomp on the dog’s nose. Kaylee jumped back and has since given the duck extra space.
