Day 516 – Back to Lassen Volcanic National Park

Lassen Peak

Lassen Peak as seen from Prospect Peak

That would be Lassen Peak as seen from Prospect Peak. Yep, we returned to Lassen for Annette’s birthday. Four days in the park. Not really enough time, but it was a good trip. Lassen is a unique environment and, unlike the more well-known western parks, it is pretty easy to avoid the crowds. Some of the youngest rocks in North America (only 120 years or so years old) can be found there. In geologic terms there are lava flows and remnants of explosive eruptions that occurred seconds ago. To find younger lava you probably have to visit Volcanos park on the Big Island of Hawaii. But enough talk, here are the photos.
