Day 644 – Some Random Images

I think it’s time for some pictures! I’ve actually been shooting quite a bit lately, both stills and video.

Day 643 – Busy, busy, busy

I’m becoming a FCPX whiz! Nothing like spending hours upon hours tweaking clips, ripple rolling sliding and splitting. Read More

Day 638 – East Coast/West Coast

If you’re in New York and need some WordPress customizing, check these guys.

Among other things they created this theme, Melville.

Day 637 – Hike!

I used to lug my main camera and lenses everywhere. I scoffed when a photographer in Boise told me “i don’t bring out my big gun unless i’m going to the dance.” No, really, he said that.

Now it’s just me and my iPhone… and the beyond awesome Hipstamatic app.

Looking kinda north from Wagner Butte

Ok, not a Hipsta photo. Looking kinda north. That's Medford in the distance.

Remember boys and girls, never hike alone.

The benefits of an incredibly wet spring linger up at elevation. There are wildflowers everywhere and the grasses in the meadow areas were positively lush. In Idaho at this time of year everything is dead and brown… and as explained to me, should be here as well. But there are still flowing springs and green grasses to be had up high. On the way down, Jim and i paused at a small bubbling stream and splashed icy water on our sweaty heads. I dug out a little dirt and built a teeny dam that would permit me to scoop two full hands worth of water and dunk my head. Livin’large!

Day 633 – Brief Bliss

aimee-at-britt

Aimee Mann last night at Britt. Good, if brief, show.

Opened with a solo acoustic version of High on Sunday which surprised me considering that’s one of her few songs that has some effects on the album version. Given her catalog i was frustrated by how briefly she was actually on stage… but venues have their rules and Jacksonville isn’t exactly  a party-all-night-long kind of town.

The Weepies opened and did a fine job. Evidently their music is all over the hipster TV show circuit, but not having seen broadcast tv in several years i was at a disadvantage.

Favorite moments: she lost the count on one number and after a couple bars stopped saying, “ok, i’ve already fucked this song up… let’s try it again.” Later, “Those of you familiar with my stuff will know that i’m a fan of…. the train wreck.” Near the end the very rushed 20 minute encore somebody requested The Moth, but she said there wasn’t enough time to play it all the way through so she rushed through first verse then stopped saying “a while ago somebody requested this song saying it was their anniversary and this was ‘their song’, all i could think was what on earth kind of marriage do you have??” Annette pointed out it’s the same with the Cowboy Junkies when Margo said somebody requested To Love is to Bury as an anniversary song; “people really don’t pay attention to lyrics, do they.”

The moth don’t care when he sees the flame
he might get burned but he’s in the game
and once he’s in he can’t go back, and
beat his wings ’till he burns them black

I wanted the evening to go on. Would a second set have been too much to ask? It’s not like it was a night of destruction by the Butthole Surfers.
