Day 1868/64 – Rented!

It was not to be part of the plan, but you know the old saying – “when you want to make god laugh, tell him your plans.”

The Boise house has not sold. Indeed we’ve not had a single offer. However i’m sure all the agents who have been bringing a steady stream of clients to see our place, and using it as a negative comparison, have been doing well with their sales. So, i’m still contributing to the GDP of Idaho.

I’m now convinced more than ever that the buying and selling of real estate, at least in the US, is a massive scam of unfathomable depths. But… to be fair, we get the systems we deserve. As most realtors will confess “the vast majority of people can’t see beyond what’s there” and therefore the role of the agent and the ancillary industries of “staging” and real estate marketing have ballooned well beyond healthy levels. But this is what we get for acting like sheep.

I’ve always liked the bumper sticker: “Try Sheepherding, the world’s 2nd oldest profession” and i suggest creating “become a realtor, the world’s 3rd oldest profession.”

Anyway, the Boise house is still hanging around our necks, our bank account (yes, thanks to my buying an Airstream and a diesel pickup to pull it) is not where we want it to be, and although i’m earning an iota more than i made at BSU, i’m still well below any semblance of a comfort level. Not to mention the fact i’m working in higher education for the state of Oregon… not exactly a rock-solid employment situation. Combine those facts with the annoying truth that the RV parks here stop renting monthly sites in the summer and you have a perfect storm which can only be escaped by renting.
