Day 618 – Heading to Camp

WordCamp that is. My history with conference events is wildly mixed. Fortunately (or unfortunately depending on how i feel at any given moment) i’ve always paid my own way so i’ve had a built-in desire to get at least some of my money’s worth.

I'm attending WordCamp San Francisco 2011!This will be my first WordCamp and what better way to kick off what i hope will be the first of many by starting with the biggest event of the “series” in my favorite city in all of North America: San Francisco.

I mean… the event could totally blow, but I won’t care… i’ll be in San Fran. If i could find a way to make it work i’d live in San Fran in the blink of an eye. Don’t misunderstand, it’s not some kind of paradise, it’s just a big American city. But the sum of the parts: the weather, the light, the drama of the improbable landscape, the contained finite-ness of the peninsula, all combine to create a unique experience.

Flying in to SFO is singular treat when the fog is off the bay. I’m sure it’s a giant pain for pilots on most days, and a pressure cooker for controllers given the volume of air traffic and the peculiarities of the weather, but as a passenger it is a joy.

Hipstamatics will be forthcoming.
